What is Youth Ministry?

A ministry designed to:
1) Introduce teens to Jesus Christ and bring them closer to Him through the Sacraments.
2) Establish meaningful relationships between the teens, growing in fellowship and calling one another on to holiness.
3) Help teens develop leadership skills in order to evangelize to others and be the face of Christ in their community and the world.

All high school students are invited to come on Sunday evenings during the school year.  We have an open format where the teens can explore life’s questions from a Catholic Christian perspective in a safe environment.  We meet with the Youth Minister in the Parish Educational Center.   The yearly schedule is shaped by a Core Team of leaders and includes social, educational, service, and spiritual opportunities.  High school students are welcome to any and all events.

“It takes a village to raise a child.” Research indicates that the teens of the world need at least three adult role models in their lives besides their parents and family.  A positive adult influence is essential to the development of a teen’s faith. We are looking for those with a strong love for teenagers who would like to help in ministering to high school youth.

Adult Core Team Members assist the youth leadership in all areas.  Volunteers are also always welcome to provide refreshments, help in the office, chaperone events, assist with transportation or witness on retreats.  Sharing your expertise and experience at a monthly educational night would always be welcome.  Your ideas will help our program continue to grow!

Many adults who have graduated from high school lose that feeling of connectedness to their Church family.  At Christ the King, we participate in a network of young adults who are single or newly married without children in the Hampton Roads Area. This group plans social events, faith in action opportunities, Bible study and other experiences that enrich their faith journey.
